‘Hi Wilfred,’ is how I recently started a conversation with the artist Wilford Barrington. His response was glib, understandably, but it seems he has since warmed to me, suggesting that the ‘secret’ to a successful relationship – the sort with legs, that runs and runs – is based on initial mishap. Specifically, mistakes generate immediate shared experience, duo-specific context, the opportunity for nostalgia, etc., and provide necessary foundations; a ‘starting point.’
